PHILOSOPHY

YECP aims to enhance the overall development of children and contribute to the development of a positive self-concept, encourage a love of learning and to develop the skills to play and interact cooperatively in a group setting. These objectives are fulfilled through a learning through play environment with an emphasis on social, emotional, physical and intellectual development.

REQUIREMENTS FOR THE PROGRAM

1. Age & Toilet Trained
Children enrolled in the program must be toilet trained at the time preschool commences in September. Children wearing diapers or pull-ups cannot attend. Children enrolled in one of the YECP preschool programs must be the following age for their respective program.
3 year olds classes - child must be 3 years of age by November 1st of the current school year.
4 year olds classes
- child must be 4 years of age by March 1st of the current school year.

2. Sharing Days
As a cooperative preschool, a parent must assist the teacher each day of the program to meet our ratio. This provides a wonderful "special day" for your child. Your "Sharing Day" works on an equal rotational basis with the other parents of the children in the same class. For example: if 12 children are enrolled in you child's class, you will work approximately every 12th preschool day. Slight adjustments are made to allow for birthdays. If you are unable to attend, an alternate (18 years or older) must be arranged, such as another parent, or grandparent, etc. Preschool class will be cancelled without an assistant.

3. Non-Sharing Days Option
We understand that some people may not have the flexibility to do the sharing day option at the preschool. We do offer a non-sharing day option for a higher fee. An aide may come in to replace the parent for that duty day. This aide is hired by the preschool and will be paid by the preschool. This option however needs to be chosen at the time of registration and then finalized at the registration meeting which is held in late August.

4. Snack Program
WE ARE A NUT FREE SCHOOL. Send a healthy snack and drink (no pop) with your child to each class. This snack should include choices from at least two food groups. Read all labels to ensure your child's snack is completely nut free.

5. May AGM Orientation Meeting
Attendance at the May AGM Orientation Meeting is required for parents. A non-dated, refundable cheque for $100.00 payable to YECP is necessary. Cheque will be refunded upon attendance at the meeting.

6. Volunteer Preschool Job
One of the child's parents is required to volunteer for one preschool job. There are many to choose from, including participating on the executive. A form is attached to this package for you to fill out. The Preschool will also require two non-dated cheques of $75.00 payable to YECP, these cheques will only be cashed if you choose not to do a volunteer duty at the Preschool or if your sharing days or volunteer job is not completed.

7. Cleaning Bee
Each child's parent must sign up for one cleaning bee morning (Saturdays) during the preschool year. These are held each month throughout the year. Six parents come in to clean the toys and preschool room. It's a nice opportunity to meet other parents as well as ensure our toys are clean. A non-dated $100.00 cheque payable to YECP must be provided when you enroll your child. It is returned to you on your housekeeping day, following completion of cleaning. You must arrange for an alternate [18 years or older) to do your cleaning day for you if you cannot attend. If you do not complete the cleaning day your cheque will be cash ed.

8. You must have a Community League Membership
Families must obtain a membership to a community league to be eligible to register at preschool, as the preschool is covered by the community league insurance. Parents should buy from their community league. If your area does not have a community league, buy membership from the closest neighboring community league. A community league membership can be purchased at the August meeting.

9. Fundraising Requirement
Yellowbird Cooperative Preschool relies on Fundraising dollars to run its exceptional program. These fundraising dollars go to cover costs such as field trips, special events, new toys, books and any extras that may be needed during the year.We require that all parents participate in our Silent Auction which is our major fundraiser that is held at the beginning of the school year.Participation could be leading up to the event, during the event (day of) and after the event. We will be asking all families to provide a non dated cheque made out to YECP for the amount of $250.00.This cheque can be cashed in lieu of participation to the silent auction or will be returned to you after your volunteer commitment to the silent auction is completed. If you fail to complete a job related to the silent auction your cheque will be cashed.

10. Medication Policy
Only medications deemed for "Emergency Use" (such as an epi-pen or inhaler) will be given while a child is at preschool. If your child has emergency medication, please record this on the registration form. The parent is required to fill out medication administration form before the child starts Preschool. This form can be received from the teacher. It is the parent's responsibility to ensure the emergency medication is given to the teacher before each class. The teacher will ensure it is not accessible to the children, but quickly accessible by the teacher in an emergency. The parent is responsible for picking up the medication at the end of class and will always ensure the medication has not expired.

Under no other circumstances will the teacher give out any medication whatsoever while a child is at preschool.

If you have a sick child, please keep them home from preschool. If a child becomes sick while at preschool, the parent will be contacted to pick up their child. The child will be isolated from the other children until the parent arrives.

11. Enrolling your child in YECP
Completely fill in the attached registration form or register online, and provide a non-refundable registration cheque for $50.00 payable to YECP, dated the day you fill in the forms. If the class you requested for your child is full, you will be offered an alternate class, and/or a space on a wait list. Once your child is in one of the programs, provide nine cheques - dated for the first of each preschool month (September to May), for the designated monthly tuition fee payable to YECL. These cheques can be brought to the registration night in August.

When enrolling your child in the YECP you will require 14 cheques to complete the enrollment.

If a paper copy of the registration form is filled out and handed in, an additional $20.00 administrative fee will be charged.

12. Probation Period
Yellowbird has a 6 week probation period that begins from the first day your child attends our Preschool. If during those 6 weeks your child is not adjusting to their new environment or the teachers feel your child is not ready for a Preschool program, you can withdraw without penalty. All money received (i.e. monthly cheques and housekeeping) will be returned. If your child is leaving our program because of the teacher and executive decision then a full refund for the 6 weeks will be given. This only applies to the first 6 weeks, after that our regular withdrawal policy applies.

13. Stagger Starts
4 years of age - The first week of school will start with the class being split up to make the adjustment easier for new students. Parents will be sent a letter mid August to let them know of when there will be a registration night and the first day your child will attend school. The teacher will use this time to assess the children's needs and will decide when a full class will begin.

3 years of age - Past experiences have shown that 3 year olds need more time to adjust to a 2 1/2 hour day. Only half of the class will start on Tuesday and the other on Thursday. Parents will be sent a letter mid August to let them know of when there will be a registration night and the first day your child will attend school . A schedule will be set up by the teacher once she has assess the children in the first week. Please be prepared for changes in the first month (i.e. shorter class times). This schedule is being done so your children can have an easier time adjusting to their new exciting program.
